👤 Meet the Brothers

🎹 Josef Ouma – The Piano Virtuoso

Josef began with the Suzuki method, but quickly advanced under the mentorship of pianists from the Moscow and Belarus conservatories. By age 14, he had already passed Grade 8 ABRSM in piano and Grade 5 theory. A master of both jazz and classical, Josef is known for his powerful yet nuanced playing. He performs from memory with impressive fluidity, able to switch between Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and ragtime with ease. His wide hand span and deep understanding of harmony give the trio a rich musical foundation.

🎻 Johann Abungu – The Arranger & Violin Prodigy

A natural athlete and gifted violinist, Johann is the trio’s musical architect. Introduced to violin at 5 and piano at 7, Johann quickly displayed a rare maturity in his playing. He declined an invitation from Chetham’s School of Music to maintain his balance with sports. He’s won competitions, composed numerous arrangements—including the Kenyan national anthem—and led orchestras across continents. As an arranger, Johann is fearless: blending African rhythms with classical forms, or fusing hip hop with string instrumentation.

🎻 Frank Abok – The Soulful Cellist

Frank, affectionately known as “Mr. Hair,” is the heart of the trio. With a quiet presence and a sharp wit, he’s both the musical anchor and the group’s internal compass. Frank joined the trio at six, thanks to his early ability to read music fluently. He was the youngest ever to join the Nairobi Orchestra and Nairobi Music Society, and he’s a runner-up in Kenya’s Young Musician of the Year (chamber section). His love for Bach, his expressive phrasing, and his strong academic record make him a standout in every sense.
